Brentford's promotion to the Premier League will see the Saddlers receive a welcome financial boost as a clause in the deal which saw Rico Henry make the switch to the Bees will soon come into effect.
Birmingham-born Henry swapped the Saddlers for the Bees ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, and, aside from the occasional injury layoff, has firmly established himself in Thomas Frank's first team, earning plenty of plaudits along the way.
Rico, a graduate of the Saddlers' Academy, has made 122 first-team appearances since he linked up with the Brentford Community Stadium side, missing just one league game in their 2020/21 Championship campaign.
As a result of the Bees' victory over Swansea City in Saturday's Championship Play0Off Final Matt Taylor's saddlers are set to collect an as-yet unconfirmed amount - rumoured to be in the region of £1,000,000 - as one of the various clauses in Rico's deal is triggered as the West London side begin to prepare for life in the top tier of English football.
Obviously, the Saddlers are keen to keep their finances under wraps and we can expect the club to use at least some of the money on non-transfer-related activities such as the Academy and Community Hub at Banks's Stadium.
However, any financial boost will be very welcome in WS1 as the club, and many others up and down the country continue to deal with the impact of coronavirus which forced their fanbase to watch games from behind a computer screen for the entire 2020/21 campaign.
