Watford striker Troy Deeney is back in the news as the Birmingham-born former Saddler has been linked with a move back to the West Midlands with recently-promoted Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion said to be keen on a loan deal.
Deeney, who joined the Hornets from Walsall in August 2010 for an eventual fee of £500,000, is often linked with moves away from Vicarage Road with a lengthy list of suitors seemingly keen to acquire his services before ultimately failing to get their man.
However, following Watford's relegation to the Championship, the Hertfordshire club are believed to looking to ease their financial stresses with several of their highest earners set to depart either permanently or on loan as they prepare for life in the second tier.
With the Hornets keen to offload their captain one of the few stumbling
blocks remaining is that of Baggies manager Slaven Bilić, who is working
on lowering the overall age of his squad, and, despite being an admirer
of Deeney, is unlikely to sanction the move.
Unfortunately for the Saddlers, who are still believed to have an active transfer clause which would see them collect in the region of 20% of any profit Watford makes from Deeney, a loan move wouldn't trigger the clause, leaving the Reds out of pocket once again.
