Joe Willis 'Can't Wait to Get Going' After Penning First Pro Deal

After putting pen to paper on his first professional contract, Walsall midfielder Joe Willis has spoken to club journalists and admitted he is 'buzzing' and can't wait for the season to get underway.
Willis, who is the latest in a long line of Academy graduates to make the breakthrough to the Saddlers' first-team squad, believes Walsall is the place to be for a young player trying to make his mark on the game.

Joe, who made his professional debut during an EFL Trophy clash with Portsmouth in January, is now counting down the days until he can get back on the pitch.

Speaking via the club's official website, Joe said; "I’m buzzing with you to be honest. It’s a dream come true to sign my first professional contract and I’m just buzzing that I’ve managed to do it.

"Walsall is a great club for me to improve as a player and as a person as well and I can’t wait to get going next season.

"My first taste of senior football was massive for me personally, it gave me a buzz and I just can’t wait to get back out there again now. I have got to thank the manager for giving me the opportunity to have that buzz."

Joe, who spent a spell on loan to one of manager Darrell Clarke's former clubs Salisbury last season, is keen to follow in the footsteps of fellow Academy graduate Alfie Bates and, despite the uncertainty as to when the season will start, wants to continue to show the gaffer what he's all about.

Joe continued; "It’s going to be a big season next year. I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get back and keep working hard and show the gaffer what I am all about. Alfie is a great example for me to mark myself against.

"I want to try and get as many games as he did. He has been a great example for everyone in the youth team because he has played so well in the first team."
