"That’s Another Five Years Off My Life" - Clarke Welcomes Walsall Win

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to the press following the Saddlers' welcome League Two victory over Forest Green Rovers, and praised his team as they secured their first victory on four league games.
Goals from Josh Gordon - the former Leicester City prospect netting his tenth goal of the season via the penalty spot - and Wes McDonald saw the Saddlers lead two-nil with seventeen minutes remaining.

However, a late Josh March strike saw the nerves return as Clarke's side were forced to defend for their lives as Forest Green went in search of a late leveller, with Mark Cooper's team also looking to halt a run of poor results.

But, thankfully for the Saddlers, they were able to continue their unbeaten run over their hosts leading manager Clarke to admit he was happy with his team's desire in the final minutes as they remained calm to take all three points.

After something of a stressful afternoon at the New Lawn, Darrell said; "That’s another five years off my life, brilliant. We needed a response after a disappointing week last week.

"I thought the attitude and endeavour about the boys was very good. Tactically, at times, the boys got it absolutely spot on. It’s a good response so we’re really pleased to come away with the three points."

Clarke continued to make changes to his side with the manager utilising several formations over the course of the game, and the Mansfield-born admitted it was something he always intended to do in order to topple their hosts.

Darrell continued; "Coops is a very talented manager and he’ll change around and answer different questions of you.

"I said to the boys it could be a tactical battle out there at times, where we have to change things and mix things up. We’re not at the stage where we just have to worry about us, I’m certainly not that arrogant to think that’s the case.

"We’ll keep working on players with different systems to be able to see a game through, and I thought we did it well."
