Darrell Clarke: "We Didn't do Ourselves Justice"

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to the press following the Saddlers' disappointing defeat to Carlisle United and admitted his team didn't do themselves justice as the Cumbrians completed the double over the Reds.
Goals from Nick Anderton and a Ryan Loft assisted Liam Roberts own goal saw the Saddlers go into the break with a two-goal deficit, despite creating the better chances during the opening forty-five minutes.

Experienced defender Mat Sadler crashed home with a header five minutes into the second-half but it simply wasn't to be as the Saddlers were unable to capitalise upon any other openings as the Cumbrians secured three much-needed points.

Speaking to the assembled media, Darrell said; "It’s very, very frustrating - orchestrators of our own downfall to be honest. We’re in control first-half and give them two goals from two set pieces. It’s not good enough.

"We do a lot of work on those but we obviously need to do more - it’s frustrating. We get back in the game and then lose a bit of control in the game, rushing with our passing.

"The honesty and endeavour of the group to try and get back in the game, I get that. But we have to be a lot more street-wise than that. Certainly with a referee that’s going to need Vaseline on his lips today from the amount of times he’s blown his whistle.

"It was very frustrating, a frustrating day for ourselves. I thought we were the better team if I’m honest. I thought we posed a lot more threats than they did. But we certainly lacked a bit of nous at the right times.

"That’s disappointing because we have enough experience in there to try and control that sort of environment. But we didn't do ourselves justice today."
