A Duo of Debuts as Walsall Faced Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy

We would like to offer our congratulations to Walsall FC Academy graduates Sam Perry and Joe Willis who made their first-team debuts as the Saddlers faced Portsmouth in a midweek EFL Trophy clash.
Perry, who along with Willis form part of Miguel Llera's Under-18s, was among the starting XI whilst Joe was introduced into the action during the second-half of the clash with Kenny Jackett's Pompey as the club continues to make the most of it's ever-successful youth system.

The duo were joined in the matchday sixteen by fellow scholar Joe Foulkes, the young defender continues to attract attention with his assured displays for the youth team and will no doubt be keen to add to his experience by making the breakthrough to the first-team in the not-too distant future.

Sadly for the trio, they were unable to stop the Saddlers from exiting the competition as, despite Caolan Lavery netting his ninth goal of the season from the spot, the visiting side reached the Quarter Final after defeating Walsall by two-goals-to-one at Banks's Stadium.

Manager Darrell Clarke's side also included several first-teamers who have already made the leap to the professional ranks with Liam Roberts, Kory Roberts, Liam Kinsella, and Alfie Bates all forming part of the matchday squad.
