Clarke Pleased With Walsall's Defensive Display

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to the press following the Saddlers' narrow League Two victory over Play-Off chasing Port Vale, and has praised his teams' defensive display as they stood firm, giving their opponents little time in the final third.
Clarke, who watched as Elijah Adebayo's goal just moments in to the second-half proved to be enough to take all three points, welcomed his team's display of effort, endeavour, and desire but the Saddlers were below par when in possession of the ball.

The welcome win moved the Saddlers seven points and seven places clear of the League Two relegation zone, easing some of the pressure which had built following a recent string of poor results.

Speaking to the assembled media, Darrell said; "Listen, effort, endeavour, and desire from my players has been there for all to see this season. ten out of ten today. Performance with the ball, I’ll probably give it one out of ten.

"Fans, ten out of ten, getting behind the team. Absolutely outstanding. So I have to be pleased. It’s the same I said to my players in there, I come and give an honest assessment of the game.

"I thought my back four were absolutely outstanding. The lads’ work rate from one to eleven was great, they’re giving me everything. But we have to be better with the ball, that’s the biggest frustration for me today.

"If we played anything like we did against Chelsea in mid-week with the ball, we’d have probably opened them up at time. That’s how I see the game."
