Walsall Chairman Calls Upon the Fans to 'Do All They Can to Attend' the Saddlers' Cup Clashes

As attention turns to Walsall's upcoming duo of cup clashes, chairman Leigh Pomlett has spoken to club journalists and discussed the importance of retaining the support of the Saddlers faithful heading into the crucial outings.
On Saturday afternoon the Saddlers play host to Oxford United in the Second Round of the Emirates FA Cup before taking on Chelsea's Under-21s in the knock-out stages of the EFL Trophy at Banks's Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Saturday's meeting with Karl Robinson's Oxford will be the fourth straight Saturday home game for the Saddlers and, although aware of the various financial issues matchdays can cause, the chairman has stressed the important role supporters can play as the Reds look to make it through to the next stage of two important cup competitions.

Speaking via the club's official website, Leigh said; "Our recent form has been much improved and it is very pleasing to be on a run of five games without defeat. We now enter a very important phase in the cup competitions.

"I am very conscious that we have had a succession of home games which, though entertaining, is also expensive particularly as we lead up to Christmas. We now have two more home games with Oxford United our visitors on Saturday and Chelsea’s youngsters next Tuesday.

"I am also aware this all costs money but I would really appreciate the continued support of our fans and all I ask is that you do all you can to attend these two very important matches.

"Both are very important and if we can still be in these competitions as we head into 2020 it will give the club a real lift, so please come along if you can and get right behind the team like you have been doing throughout the season so far.

"I think, despite our league position, we are beginning to see that this team is making real progress and the players are really benefiting from the fans support. It would be just great to get through to the Third Round of the FA Cup and the last 16 of the Leasing.com. With your support, we can achieve just that."
