Mat Sadler Calls Upon His Teammates to Outrun Their Opponents

Walsall defender Mat Sadler has spoken ahead of this weekend's League Two clash with Leyton Orient and admitted that the team will have to outrun opponents in order to win more matches.
The Saddlers head into this weekend's match looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Salford City, when they shipped three unanswered goals in the way to a first defeat in five all-competition outings.

34-year-old Sadler, who returned to the club for a second spell after leaving Shrewsbury Town at the end of last season, felt Salford outworked the Saddlers last week and is keen to rectify that against Orient on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking via the club's official website, Mat said; "I’m a big believer that if you run harder and run further than the opposition then you give yourself a better chance of winning the game.

"Over the course of the game they were the better team and we went away thinking we’ve been beaten by a team that’s outworked us and that never sits nicely.

"You dust yourself down and you start all over again, but it’s always important when a run comes to an end to start another one and if you can go a season winning three and losing one, you’ll be alright at the end of it.

"It was a blip and we have to make sure that’s all that it was."

The Saddlers were missing a number of key players against the Ammies and Sadler felt Walsall felt the effects of not having the likes of Rory Gaffney and Danny Guthrie in their side as they slipped to a disappointing defeat.

Mat continued; "We missed a couple of key players, that was a big thing for us. Without question we missed Rory, he’s been fantastic since he’s come in.

"Anyone who underrates Rory should watch that game and see what we miss when he’s not in the team, in terms of how hard he works, he’s right at the top of the running stats every time he plays.

"We definitely missed Danny Guthrie’s guile and his know-how, so you take a couple elements out the team and it definitely changes things."
