Clarke, who had made one change to the starting line-up which defeated the Shrimps in midweek as Wes McDonald replaced Liam Kinsella in midfield, was delighted as James Clarke's overhead kick was enough to see the Saddlers edge clear of the relegation zone.
The result also saw the Saddlers earn their fifth clean sheet in ten games as the recently rebuilt team looks to be finding the form many fans had hoped to see at the start of the campaign.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Darrell said; "It’s what we are at the moment, robust, defensively strong, another clear sheet - that’s through the team, not just the back lads.
"We know we’re nowhere near were I want us to get, but it takes a bit of time, we have to try and win games along the way. We have to be more clinical again in the final third but we take the win.
"We’ve played very well the last couple of games but it was important to get our first home win. I’ve managed him for many, many years and trust me when I say that he doesn’t do that every week.
"It was a great match-winning moment, I thought we deserved the win, we just edged a tight game against a team which will improve through the course of the season."
