Despite goals becoming as rare as hen's teeth, manager Darrell Clarke has opted to loan young striker Mitchel Candlin out as the prospect gets a shot at some much-needed first-team football.
19-year-old, Stafford-born Candlin recently joined BetVictor Southern League Central Division side Nuneaton Borough on an initial 28-day loan as he seeks to improve his chances of forcing his way into the team.
Candlin, who spent half of last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers, was named on the bench as the Boro travelled to Langford Road and faced Biggleswade Town on Saturday afternoon.
Sadly for Mitch he was unable to make much of an impact as his new side slipped to a two-nil defeat with goals from Ky Marsh-Brown (19') and Matt Ball (82') secured all three points.
Candlin was however able to make a run out as he replaced Callum Powell after sixty-four minutes but couldn't change the scoreline during what turned out to be a disappointing afternoon for the travelling side.
Boro are next in action on Tuesday evening as they take on Stourbridge.
