Darrell Clarke Looking to Sign Two More Players Ahead of Transfer Deadline Day

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken ahead of this weekend's League Two clash with Plymouth Argyle and confirmed that he is targeting two more signings before next month’s transfer deadline as he looks to add the final ingredient to his rebuilt squad.
The Mansfield-born former Bristol Rovers boss has already overseen major change at Banks's Stadium as he added fifteen players to his squad whilst allowing even more to depart for pastures new.

And the gaffer has now admitted that he will step up his efforts to sign another striker after this weekend's League Two clash with Plymouth Argyle, with the 41-year-old keen to focus on adding options in the final third as his side have scored only twice in four league outings so far this season.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Darrell said; "I know what we need, I know what we need for a different option.

"I know what type of player I want, there’s players I want, but getting them in and getting the right one is never easy in football management.

"People think it’s easy but it’s not, there’s a lot of things that come into it and I’m sure people have an understanding of what goes into getting the right player, and not adding just for the sake of it.

"I’ll be looking to bring in two before the window closes."

With Elijah Adebayo, Caolan Lavery, and Josh Gordon currently the only first-team strikers at the club, the manager was keen to establish that he'd be looking to add another even if they were getting on the scoresheet, as three isn't enough for a lengthy League Two campaign.

Clarke continued; "It’s not just about pulling a striker in and then all of a sudden this magic wand’s going to come and we’re going to start winning games three or four-nil.

"We need a striker not because my other strikers are struggling, I need a striker because I’ve only got three strikers – or what I class as first-team strikers – at the club.

"That’s why I need another one coming in, another bit of competition for places."
