Darrell Clarke: "I've Got a Good Selection Headache"

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to club journalists ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League Two clash with Forest Green Rovers and admitted he will have a welcome selection headache heading into the second game of the season.
The manager saw a several members of his first-team squad feature in a behind closed doors friendly on against Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday evening, as the game provided the opportunity for some of the fringe players to get some game time under their belts and the manager was impressed with what he saw.

Speaking via the club's official website, Clarke said; "The lads got some minutes into them. I’ve got a good selection headache because it was a good performance from the boys who haven’t play 90 minutes yet.

"They’re champing at the bit to make their debuts and we’re looking forward to this next game."

The gaffer, who saw his side secure a welcome opening-day win at the weekend, is expecting a tricky test from Forest Green but is keen for the Saddlers to build strong momentum at the Banks's this season, starting with a positive result against Mark Cooper’s side.

Darrell continued; "Any successful team has good home form so we want to get some momentum at home. They’re a tough team Forest Green, they were thereabouts last year.

"They’re a well organised, possession-based team so it’s going to be a tough ask but every team in this division gives you different difficulties.

"They’ll have different strengths and different weaknesses and that’s been our working week working towards this next game.

"We certainly want to get our home form kicking off, we got a good three points away from home last week so we’ll try and get three points at home this week."
