22-year-old McDonald was a free agent after leaving Yeovil Town following the end of a six-month deal which saw him make twelve appearances before suffering a hamstring injury in January, that injury would ultimately end his 2018/19 campaign.
Wes insists is happy to have signed for a club like Walsall and the former Birmingham City prospect is determined to make up for lost time having not played a competitive game of football in seven months.
Speaking to the Express & Star's Walsall correspondent Joseph Masi, Wes said; "I’m delighted to be a Walsall player, it’s a great club and I'm really looking forward to the season starting and being able to show people what I can do.
"This time last year I signed for Yeovil for six-months and I did pretty well. I injured my hamstring in January but now I am fully fit and raring to go.
"It's great to have got a pre-season under my belt. It's a great bunch of lads here so I've enjoyed it. But I just can’t wait for the season now and to get going."
Wes was part of the Saddlers' twenty-two man squad which made the trip to Poznan in Poland for a pre-season Training Camp and almost netted his first Walsall goal when he rattled the crossbar during the friendly against Polish outfit Odra Opole. And he is confident he will soon be finding the target.
Wes continued; "I have come here to create chances and score goals. I’m a creative player who wants to be getting assists and getting on the score sheet myself. I almost scored against Odra Opole in Poland.
"I hit the bar, luck wasn’t with me. But I’m sure those goals will come soon, hopefully, it will come at Northampton on the opening day."
