George Dobson Edges Closer to Walsall Exit as Bid is Accepted

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to the press following his team's mid-week pre-season defeat to Aston Villa and confirmed that the club have accepted a bid for want-away midfielder George Dobson.
Clarke confirmed that Dobson, who has been linked with a move to Sunderland over recent weeks, is now able to discuss personal terms with an as-yet unnamed club - likely to be the Black Cats - as he looks to secure a move away from Banks's Stadium.

21-year-old, London-born Dobson has missed most of the Saddlers' pre-season campaign as he and striker Morgan Ferrier expressed a desire to leave the club following last season's relegation to the fourth tier of English football.

Ferrier was named among the substitutes to take on Aston Villa on Wednesday evening but it is now understood that Dobson could complete a switch to the Stadium of Light later this week as the League One side look to build a strong squad ahead of a potential title.

Speaking shortly after his side had slipped to a 5-1 defeat to Dean Smith's side, Darrell confirmed; "A fee has been agreed with a particular club.I'm not going to mention the club because it is not over the line yet. We'll see how things develop."

Dobson is contracted to the Saddlers until the end of June 2021 and is expected to command a healthy six-figure fee with Clarke needing to re-enter the transfer market to add at least another midfielder to his squad ahead of Transfer Deadline Day.
