Clarke, who became renowned for his tough pre-seasons during his time in charge of Bristol Rovers, admitted that things will be just as tough for the Saddlers as they continue to prepare for life in Sky Bet League Two.
The Saddlers, who are currently down to the bare bones following the manager's decision to release several members of the squad at the end of last season, are expected to complete the signing of several new players as the recently-appointed gaffer continues to put his mark on the side.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Darrell said; "We are going to create a hard-working environment. It will be a really tough pre-season, but we have got to get the balance of it right.
"We have to make sure we don’t have too many injuries. It is all about preparing the players for the season which is a long 10-month period."
Along with the upcoming return to training, Darrell and his squad will be making the trip to Poland for a few days of team building, and Clarke feels a change of scenery will be just what the doctor ordered.
Darrell continued; "It’s a great opportunity for us as a team to go away. It’s not just for a bonding process. It’s good for us to be nailing things down and for a change of scenery.
"The bonding is an important part of it. But it is also about getting what I want out of the players."
