A dismal campaign, which saw the Saddlers defy the odds for the opening seven matchdays only to revert to type and plummet down the table over the remainder of the season, has to go down as one of the worst in recent memory as, despite the promise of a new manager, rebuilt squad, and a newfound desire to progress, the team continued to under-perform culminating in this weekend's relegation.
We call upon the club's board to act swiftly to appoint a new manager, and allow them the time, and most importantly money, to begin the difficult and potentially lengthy task of rebuilding this clearly lacking team.
If this season - especially the latter stages - has proven anything its that you cannot simply fiddle at the edges of the issue and expect to fix it, the core is rotten and has to go.
There is no doubt that League Two will present many, many challenges as along with the clubs which will ultimately join us in the fourth tier of English football, there are several teams who have failed to make the jump this season with clear ambition to climb further up the pyramid and will be more than happy to step over us to make their promotion dreams come true.
