Released & Retained: Darrell Clarke Begins to Reshape His Squad

Following the team's relegation to Sky Bet League Two, recently appointed first-team manager Darrell Clarke and his backroom team have confirmed which players will remain with the club for the 2019/20 campaign along with those who will depart for pastures new.
The Saddlers, who struggled for form for much of the season, ended the campaign in the relegation zone and, after winning just twelve of their 46 league games, are in desperate need of a squad overhaul.

New manager Darrell Clarke, who recently penned a three-year deal at Banks's Stadium, will have to contend with almost twenty players nearing the end of their contracts as he looks to shape his side ahead of the coming campaign.

The manager has been hampered by League rules forcing clubs to give players a minimum period of time to decide their futures, meaning he has had a bust first week assessing the great and not-so-great as he begins the summer rebuild.

Out-of-contract players Liam Kinsella and Nicky Devlin have been offered new two-year contracts, while we have exercised our option to extend the contract of Callum Cockerill-Mollett by a further year. As publicised earlier in the year, we have also extended Kory Roberts’ deal as he continues his rehabilitation from a long-term injury.

Joe Edwards, Kieron Morris, Luke Leahy, Jon Guthrie, Zeli Ismail, Chris Dunn, Jordon Sangha, Tobias Hayles-Docherty, Isaiah Osbourne, Cameron Peters and Omar Mussa have all been given free transfers and will leave the club when their contracts expire in June. We would like to thank all outgoing players for their efforts during their time with the Saddlers and wish them well for the future.

Long-serving club captain Adam Chambers remains in discussions with the club about his future both on and off the field.

Joe Slinn, Dan Vann and Dylan Parker have been invited back for pre-season training, while Maz Kouhyar, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in April, will continue his rehabilitation with the club throughout the summer.

Second-year apprentices Tom Leak and Luke Little have been offered short-term professional deals, joining Alfie Bates, who penned his first professional contract earlier this month.
