Walsall-born Keates spoke of his frustration as his side have started to take on a steady stream of goals, often via their own mistakes, and admitted that it has to end of they are to return to form.
The Saddlers were defeated by Bristol Rovers at Banks's Stadium on Boxing Day, the performance being a disappointing follow-up to their dominant display away to Peterborough United, and Keates believes his side has to begin to make teams 'earn the right' to score against them.
Speaking via the club's official website - Saddlers.co.uk - Dean said; "We’re getting a mixed bag at the moment. We have to find a level of consistency. We went from the second half at Bradford to being by far the better team for long periods against Peterborough, a team absolutely flying.
"Then against Bristol Rovers, the second half wasn’t good enough. Teams are not earning the right to score a goal against us – we’re giving silly goals away and that has to be stopped.
"At the moment, we have a good performance, then an indifferent performance and then a bad performance. When you find a level of consistency and get four, five, six, seven, eight games going, that’s when you start heading up the table.
"Whatever team goes out there against Luton has to make sure they give 110% and represent this club as well as they can."
