The Saddlers, who had already seen Dan Vann and Mitchel Candlin depart earlier in the day, left it late to sign the Wolves prospects and were faced with something of an anxious wait as EFL and Football Association clearance didn't arrive until Saturday afternoon.
However, Keates, who managed to land Ronan until January and Johnson for the rest of the campaign, insists that they will be worth the wait as he now had a bit of competition in key positions
Dean, who was speaking via the Express & Star, said; "We got the okay for the deals just before kick-off on Saturday, it's all over the line. They are two good additions to the squad. Connor Ronan knows what the division is about and is a great little footballer. And formation wise he offers us something a bit different.
"And Connor Johnson comes in to provide competition at centre-half which is an area we have been a bit light. He gives us an extra body in there. Jon and Jack have done 90 minutes since day one. He gives us a safety net."
The manager, who has shifted the club to a 4-4-2 formation since arriving last season, then went on to talk about Ronan, admitting that the attacking-midfielder adds something different to the squad.
Keates added; "He gives me options. I watched him on numerous occasions last season for Wolves under-23s. And then we came up against him when he played for Pompey. Watching their games leading up to ours, he is a good little footballer and he wants to play. He will give us something different."
