The Saddlers have already eclipsed last season's Carabao Cup performance by reaching Round Two, and the 24-year-old is under no illusions that the Silkmen will provide a tough test, something that they will have to overcome of they are to make it to Round Three.
Nicky, who was speaking via the Express & Star, said; "We are probably expected to beat them, but we are under no illusions. They are going to make it very difficult for us. They won the National League last season and are no mugs. We need to perform to get through."
The defender, who joined the club from Ayr United in the summer of 2017 then went on to discuss his desire for the team to go as far in the competition as possible, especially after a few seasons of cup failure.
Devlin continued; "I want to go as far as we can – over the past few years, the club hasn’t had a great cup run. Don’t get me wrong, if we draw Man United or Liverpool, I won’t complain. But I’d rather get a team we are equal too and try and get through. But we’ve got a massive game against Macclesfield. Nobody is looking beyond that.”
