The manager, has already rebuilt his attacking line over the summer, is keen to add another central defender to his squad, easing the pressure on the current players and also adding another option, should he wish to mix things up.
Walsall-born Keates also revealed that he may be able to add 'one or two' other players to his squad before the window slams shut, but is expecting things to go down to the wire.
Dean, who was speaking via the Express & Star, said; "I have openly said I want to add another centre-half. I’d like to think there will be an addition there and maybe one or two elsewhere. It’s could go right to the wire. There is one I have been after for some weeks, one I have been chipping away at.
"If that doesn’t happen there are options to go elsewhere. Centre-back is the only position we haven’t got cover for. It’s something that needs addressing and something that will be addressed."
