The Saddlers named a young side to take on the Clarets and used the match as an opportunity to blood some of their players as they prepare for the upcoming EFL Youth Alliance campaign, which begins with an away trip to Fleetwood Town.
Walsall were unable to make much of a mark on their opponents for the first hour of the match as they fell four behind as goals from Rob Harker, Christian N'Guessan, Tinashe Chakwana, and Ed Cook saw Burnley establish a comfortable lead before the match had reached the hour mark. John Ward's side looking like they were heading for a thrashing.
It wasn't all bad news for Walsall however as, along with saving a penalty shortly after the sixty-five minute mark, they also hit the back of the net as attacking-midfielder Maziar Kouhyar bundled the ball over the line with just four minutes of the second-half remaining.
