Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press and revealed that he is keeping tabs on former Saddlers winger Milan Lalkovic, as the 25-year-old, who was released by Portsmouth on Transfer Deadline Day, continues to work on his fitness.
Milan departed the Banks's for Fratton Park in the summer of 2016 and went on to make eighteen first-team appearances for the South Coast club, also managing eight appearances during a loan spell with Ross County.
Whitney, who was speaking via the Express & Star, admitted that he had contacted the former Chelsea prospect on Deadline Day and continues to receive updates on his injury status as he works his way back from an achilles injury.
47-year-old Whitney said; "I spoke to Milan on deadline day and I’ve also spoken to him over the past few days to see how he is getting on. He is a long way off full fitness at the moment. But he is doing his rehab work.
"He’s a free agent. I understand Milan. I’ve known him for a long time and he is a player I really like. I might look at bringing him in in a couple of weeks time and let him train in the gym.
"If there is an opportunity, I wouldn’t rule out Milan playing a part for us this year. First and foremost though he has to get himself fit. Milan needs to get back to having a smile on his face – that is the most important thing for him at the minute."
