Whitney's Walsall 'In a Good Place' Ahead of Wimbledon Clash

Saddlers manager Jon Whitney thinks his players are in a "good place" heading into Saturday afternoon's League One clash with AFC Wimbledon.
Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to club journalists ahead of Saturday afternoon's League One clash with AFC Wimbledon, and praised his side for their positive reaction to the Emirates FA Cup defeat to Newport County.

46-year-old Whitney, who will be taking charge of his 90th Saddlers game at the weekend, has been pleased with his side’s response and says his team will travel to Kingsmeadow in confident mood.

Jon, who was speaking via the club's official website Saddlers.co.uk, said; "All you can ask for is a reaction - and I’m sure the fans will agree that we’ve had one. We’ve had three good, solid performances. We beat Shrewsbury in the Checkatrade Trophy and topped our group. We beat a really strong and fancied Fleetwood team. And we dominated Gillingham but didn’t get the result.

"You can’t guarantee wins but we need to concentrate on the small elements that give us that performance and I think we’ll improve again off Fleetwood. Every game is an opportunity. They’ve had some good results recently and it’s always difficult when you go there, but we will go there with confidence.

"We’ve got a young, vibrant, creative team who are in a good place at the moment. We’ll go there and respect the opposition as we always do but we’ll concentrate on ourselves and how we can cause them problems."
