Donnellan Open to Baggies Departure as He Seeks First-Team Football

On-loan West Brom defender Shaun Donnellan has admitted he’s not ‘bothered’ if the Baggies offer him a new deal because he wants to secure more first-team football.
Walsall's on-loan West Brom defender Shaun Donnellan, who has made nine first-team appearances since joining on a six-month loan earlier in the season, has spoken to the press and admitted that he is not concerned about his future, despite having less than a year remaining on his deal with the Baggies.

Shaun, who was speaking via the Express & Star, insisted that he is focussed on securing more first-team football and will be fine even if the Hawthorns club don't offer him a fresh deal, he said; "If they offer me a new contract, they offer me a new contract. I just want to play first team football, wherever that may be. I don’t want to be floating around in the under-23s. If it’s not at West Brom, it’s not at West Brom. I’m not too bothered about that. I want to be settled in a first-team environment, wherever that may be."

21-year-old Donnellan, who has struggled for minutes since being dropped form the starting line-up in September, insisted that he is still enjoying his time at Banks's Stadium, he continued; "I took it on the chin. I was a bit disappointed but that’s football, you just have to crack on and keep your head down. I have been on loan for the past couple of seasons and this is another step up. I was at Worcester and then Dagenham last year, where we close to getting promoted. It’s a big step up and I started well, been in and out of the team lately but I’m enjoying it."
