Rail Services Suspended Following Incident Near Bescot Stadium

Rail services to and from Bescot Stadium have been suspended after a person was hit and killed by a train earlier this afternoon.

British Transport Police have confirmed that the incident happened near Bescot Stadium railway station at around 3.20pm on Tuesday. No London Midland trains are running between Tame Bridge Parkway and Rugeley Trent Valley while emergency services remain at the scene.

"A person has sadly died after they were struck by a train close to Bescot Crescent in Walsall, Birmingham. Officers were called to the line at approximately 3.20pm this afternoon and attended alongside paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Officers remain at the scene and are working to identify the person and inform their family. Work is being done in order to determine how this person came to be on the tracks, although the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious."

Road transport is running between Tame Bridge Parkway and Rugeley Trent Valley; and will be provided by Mighty Travel, Eminence, Five Star, Robinsons and Amans. Passengers are also advised that tickets are being accepted on Arriva and National Express West Midlands bus services.

"Emergency services are dealing with an incident near Bescot Stadium causing disruption to trains between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley.

"Trains will not run between Tame Bridge Parkway and Rugeley Trent Valley. There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 18:00.

"Road transport is running between Tame Bridge Parkway and Rugeley Trent Valley; and will be provided by Mighty Travel, Eminence, Five Star, Robinsons, Bowdens, Soverign Coaches, Cosy Cruise and Amans."
