Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press following Saturday's pre-season defeat to Solihull Moors, and discussed the conversations he had with supporters before kick-off.
Jon, who was speaking via the Walsall Advertiser, insisted that he decided to engage with the fans to 'see where they were at' ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, and admitted that the club has to become more open with its supporters.
Whitney said; "I wanted to get an idea of where the fans are at. I can understand the questions they are asking and what we've got to do as a club is start to be a little bit more open.
"To show what we are doing behind the scenes with the youth, and how it takes a little bit of time for this potential to come through. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'm going to do some open 'Meet the Manager' evenings.
"Because I want to show the fans and the outside world what we do as a club behind the scenes with the infrastructure, the new astroturf, the two new gyms that we've just invested in. All this stuff is what I've got to weigh up out of my whole budget and it's a fine balance. Hopefully I can get the right balance."
