Saddlers manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press ahead of Wednesday evening's pre-season clash with West Bromwich Albion, and discussed how his team will face more intense training sessions as the season edges ever closer.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon insisted that, up until the middle of last week, he and his coaches hadn't truly taxed the players as they look to hit the ground running when they take on Bury on Saturday, 5th August, he said; "In the friendlies so far we have had really good energy and the distances we are covering on the pitch are above average. We don’t get dictated to by sports science but it is nice for that to back up what we are thinking.
"But we now have two weeks to really sharpen up. We have not really done the explosive stuff until the middle of last week. We have two weeks of doing high energy stuff now. This is when the fun really starts and we tax the players."
