Sheffield United Defender Set to Complete Saddlers Switch

Social media reports suggest the Saddlers are set to add Sheffield United defender James Wilson to their backline as manager Jon Whitney looks to sure up his squad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
Media reports suggest that Walsall Football Club are set to sign Sheffield United defender James Wilson on loan, as manager Jon Whitney looks to add numbers to his understaffed backline.

28-year-old Wilson, a former Welsh international, has made over one-hundred and eighty first-team appearances during a career which has spanned over a decade.

Chepstow-born Wilson began his career at Bristol City, and turned professional in 2006. Over the next eight years James would make thirty-four appearances for the Robins and also enjoyed loan spells with Brentford and Cheltenham Town before leaving the club in January 2014.

At the end of January 2014 Wilson penned a six-month deal with Oldham Athletic,a deal which would ultimately be extended as he remained with the Latics until the summer of 2016.

James made over one-hundred first-team appearances for Oldham before rejecting a new deal and joining Sheffield United on a two-year contract in 2016.

Wilson failed to make much of an impact at Bramall Lane last season, making just ten first-team appearances over the lengthy campaign.

If a deal is completed, James, a former Welsh under-19 and under-21 international, would add some much-needed strength to the Saddlers' backline as they prepare for the 2017/18 campaign.
