Walsall defender Nicky Devlin, who recently joined on a two-year deal after rejecting several offers from teams in the Scottish Premiership, has spoken to club journalists and revealed that the opportunity to play in England was simply too good to turn down.
Nicky, who was speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, insisted that the decision to leave Ayr United was an easy one once the Saddlers came calling, he said; "I think if you ask most boys in Scotland, they want to come down and play in England at some point in their careers.
"When a League One club showed interest it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. I had the opportunity to stay in Scotland and had an offer from a club in the Scottish Premier League.
"But a League One club in England is a fantastic opportunity for me. There are a lot of big clubs in the league next season. And when I spoke with the manager and the offer came up I knew this is where I wanted to play."
