Walsall's Under 18s were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travelled to Nelson FC's Victoria Park ground where they took on Accrington Stanley Under 18s in the latest EFL Youth Alliance (North West) fixture of the season.

Ahead of kick-off, the young Saddlers sat in fourth position in the Alliance having won sixteen of their twenty-six fixtures including last weekend's two-nil victory over Tranmere Rovers.

Accrington Stanley were in twelfth position ahead of kick-off and arrived at the match on the back of a two-nil victory over fifth placed Port Vale.

Walsall would win this afternoon's match by three-goals-to-two as a Joseph Cairns brace was backed up by a William Shorrock strike, giving the Saddlers another victory on the road moving them to within two points of second-placed Burnley who drew four-all with Shrewsbury Town.

The young Saddlers, who can no longer win the league as Blackpool defeated Wrexham four-nil - maintaining their four point lead, will wrap up their Youth Alliance campaign next Saturday morning as they play host to Shrewsbury Town at Ray Hall Lane.
