Walsall striker Andreas Makris, who joined the club from Anorthosis Famagusta for an undisclosed club record fee last summer, has finally bagged his first senior goal as the Saddlers were held to a one-all draw by visitors Oxford United.
Makris had made thirty-four goalless appearances heading into Saturday afternoon's League One clash with the U's with the Cyprus international becoming increasingly unlucky in front of goal.
Thankfully 21-year-old Makris had now hit the back of the net as he opened the scoring early in the second-half as he found space on the edge of the area, controlled the ball and sent a left-footed volley past Simon Eastwood in the Oxford goal. A great strike and perfect way to open his account.
Oxford levelled the scores with fifteen minutes of normal time remaining as Chris Maguire’s 25-yard shot took a wicked deflection off James O’Connor and rolled agonisingly past a wrong-footed Neil Etheridge in the Walsall goal.
Congratulations to Andreas, hopefully he can now kick-on and add to his tally before the end ofthe season.
