Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press and revealed that the club recently missed out on one of their transfer targets as highly-rated Macclesfield Town winger Danny Rowe opted to join Ipswich Town, over several other interested sides.
24-year-old Rowe, who began his professional career with Stockport County, was the subject of a £100,000 bid from Barnet but recently joined the Tractor Boys on a multi-year contract for an as yet undisclosed fee.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Whitney said; "One of my targets has gone so that won’t be happening. Danny Rowe. He went to Ipswich. I wasn’t expecting them to come in and scupper me. But that is life. I am speaking to a couple of more people. But he was a good target and we bid cash for him.
"Ipswich came in though and I can understand the lad wanting to play for a Championship club. That is football. But we have got a good, strong team. I’m trying to add a face but time is running out for me. I will be spending a lot of time on my phone ahead of Tuesday."
