Walsall coach and former central defender Dean Holden, who returned to the club in March following a spell with Oldham Athletic, is rumoured to be among the candidates for the vacant managerial position at Shrewsbury Town, as the Greenhous Meadow side seek to replace Micky Mellon, who recently left the club to join Tranmere Rovers.
Holden was not present during the Saddlers' midweek draw away to Gillingham as rumours of an imminent departure, following a reported recent interview, begin to swirl.
Walsall goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler, who is also part of the general coaching staff, spoke to the local press following the match and confirmed that Holden was not in Kent, but insisted that the 37-year-old was absent due to family reasons, speaking to Joseph Masi of the Express and Star, he said; "He has had a family matter. We send him our wishes and we will speak to him later."
The current favourite for the Salop job is former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett.
