Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press following Tuesday evening's Sky Bet League One defeat to Chesterfield, and has insisted that the Saddlers can take plenty of positives from the match.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon said; “It’s disappointing but I am still quite positive. I thought in the first half we controlled it. This is my 21st game in charge and that is the best we have been on the counter attack.

"There were bits of how we used to be last year and that was really pleasing. I didn’t see the goal coming. They came into it second half as we sat a little deep.

"I still thought we might go on and win it. I am disappointed but not too frustrated because if we perform with that application, desire and energy we will win more than we lose. I am not going to beat myself up too much."
