Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press following Saturday afternoon's season-opening victory over AFC Wimbledon, and has praised recent arrival Simeon Jackson, as the Canadian international opened his goalscoring account.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon said; "The third goal – as a team goal – was quite special. Ama put in a great ball and Simeon anticipated it. He didn’t react after the event, he anticipated that ball coming in and that is what makes him a top striker. Those goals will mean a lot to him and he will go on to get many more.
"It’s always nice to get up and running because it’s hard for a striker the longer you go without getting a league goal. Deep down he wants goals and he knows he will be judged on goals. I think he is a great example to kids that you get rewards for hard work. I think he got the rewards for the shift he put in. It was an incredible amount of running he did for us."
