Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press ahead of this evening's EFL Cup Round One clash with Yeovil Town, and has revealed that he is likely to ring the changes with several previously unused players set to be given the chance to show what they can do.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon said; "I love games and it’s always nice to have a cup tie so I’m really look forward to it. It’s great for me as well that I have got a fully fit squad to choose from. I will rest players because that was always my plan. With the way we play, all the players have to put in a really intense session.
"It’s still early in the season and we are still trying to develop fitness levels so it’s hard to play two games in such quick succession. But we will approach it the same we do as any other game. It’s about us. We will analyse them and we will look for some chinks in their armour – areas we can take advantage of.”
Whitney is expected to give starts to Amadou Bakayoko and George Dobson, alongside youngsters Maziar Kouhyar and Liam Kinsella, with club-record signing Andreas Makris also in contention to make his debut.
The manager continued; "I have got players who I left on the bench against Wimbledon like Maz and Liam who are really fighting and chomping at the bit to play. They show all the qualities I love. And they will be needed because we have a lot of games and we can’t bring loan players in. Tuesday is a chance for them to come into the fold."
