Walsall manager Jon Whitney spoken to the local press following Saturday afternoon's pre-season defeat to Derby County, and has discussed his desire to add a few more fresh faces to his squad, revealing that he has held meetings with some of his targets over the past few days.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon said; "I have spoken to a couple and had a couple of one-to-ones. Some have gone a bit further down the line. Some I have not taken forward. But again, I’m not going to rush into it. A lot of the players I am looking at are not free agents so I am looking at players who are fit and have done pre-season.
"With Franck and Simeon for example, because they were free agents, I needed to get them in sooner rather than later. They didn’t have a team to work with. No matter how much work you do on your own, it’s not the same. A couple I am still looking at, but they have to be the right people."
