Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts and new recruit Theo Vassell were both named in Chester's starting XI as they took on Wigan Athletic in the second of their friendlies ahead of the upcoming Vanarama National League campaign.
The match, which was played in front of some 1,180 fans at Chester's Lookers Vauxhall Stadium, saw the Latics enjoy much of the attacking play, with Liam Roberts, who was replaced by Jon Worsnop at half-time, being called into action on a couple of occasions.
Liam saved a Craig Davies header after eleven minutes, and also prevented Yanic Wildschut from opening the scoring midway through the first half.
Young central defender Theo Vassell, who recently joined the Saddlers from Oldham Athletic, was involved until the sixty-seventh minute as Kieran Evans took his place, and got the chance to play with his new defensive teammates for the first time.
The match saw plenty of attacking play, with Chester also having some attempts on goal, but the Blues couldn't hit the back of Wigan goalkeeper Lee Nicholls' net as the scores remained level.
