As the deadline for soon-to-be out of contract players to agree to new deals edges ever closer, Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press and has discussed his desire to take charge of negotiations and 'wheel and deal' in the transfer market.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon, who revealed that he is speaking to a variety of targets including youngsters, players heading towards the end of their career and some who haven’t fulfilled their potential, said; “My phone is ringing all the time with agents. But I am quite good at wheeling and dealing. I have been around it for many years and done it myself as a player.
"I was in with managers and did it myself – I never had an agent, I always did what I was happy with. I am going to take that skillset into my negotiations with players and I hope they can see with my enthusiasm and my knowledge it will benefit them.”
