Former Walsall defender Mat Sadler, who now plys his trade with near-rivals Shrewsbury Town, has spoken to the press and backed the Shrews to 'do a Walsall' and push for promotion during the upcoming 2016/17 Sky Bet League 1 campaign.
Speaking via the Shropshire Star, Mat said; “We can look at other clubs in the division such as Walsall, who had a fantastic season but for a few years before that really struggled.
“We’ve probably got more financial clout than Walsall, so let’s hope we can fast-track that a bit because the manager is desperate to drive that forward. You see examples of ‘flash in the pan’ – Yeovil managed to get themselves up (from League Two to the Championship), but look what’s happened since with two relegations.
“So if the club do things right, with gradual improvement – which they do – they could outlast that ‘flash in the pan’ thing.”
