Southend United manager Phil Brown has spoken to club journalists ahead of Saturday afternoon's Sky Bet League 1 clash between his side and Jon Whitney's Walsall, and has discussed the Saddlers' midweek victory over Gillingham, admitting that it was one of the best performances he has seen all year.
Speaking via SouthendUnited.co.uk, Phil said; “It’s not often you get to see the opposition, but on Tuesday night, myself and Graham Coughlan went across to Gillingham and watched, what I’ve got to say, was one of the best performances I’ve seen all year.
“They are a very well organised team, and they are a team that’s not in great form from a promotion perspective, so to go to Gillingham with the game plan they did is all the more impressive. So it’s going to be a difficult match based on the fact that they are a very good footballing team.”
