Walsall Caretaker manager John Ward, who is joined in the job by Head Physio Jon Whitney and Goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler, has spoken to the local press ahead of this weekend's Emirates FA Cup clash with Chesterfield, and has insisted that he is not in the running for the permanent managerial position.
Speaking via the Express & Star, John said; “I enjoyed it at Shrewsbury but I’m not certain I want to be on the front line anymore. I have got two younger guys here to work with who want to push on and take advice and I am quite happy to do that.
“I don’t see myself going back into management whether that’s here or elsewhere. I’m at an age and stage where I’m happy to be an advisor, helper, coach and be on the training ground.
“I love being on the training ground with the players, helping them prepare for games. I’d rather just leave the problems to somebody else, if I’m being honest. I’m quite happy for someone else to take the responsibility and I’ll advise and help as much as I can if they want that help.”
