According to reports on the Express & Star website, Walsall Football Club officials have held lengthy discussions with locally based manager, Sean O'Driscoll, who is the current bookies favourite to take the vacant managerial position following the recent departure of Dean Smith, and assistant Richard O'Kelly.
Wolverhampton-born Sean O'Driscoll, a former midfielder who finished his playing career with over six-hundred games under his belt, led Doncaster Rovers to the Championship during his first full season in charge, and had to operate on a very small budget, experience that would no doubt benefit him, were he to join the Banks's Stadium.
The Express & Star's report states; Sources reckon O’Driscoll, who has an impressive managerial CV with the likes of Doncaster Rovers and Nottingham Forest, wants to ensure he will be given full backing.
It is believed former boss Dean Smith and his assistant Richard O’Kelly recommended O’Driscoll to the Walsall board before the pair departed for Brentford.
And O’Driscoll is understood to want to formulate a strategy to build on Smith’s work at the Banks’s and gain promotion from League One.
Walsall directors have been taking their time to assess their options for the hot-seat and remain in no rush to make an immediate decision.
