Former Newcastle United, Sunderland and Fulham midfielder Lee Clark has become the latest manager to be linked with the vacant position at Walsall Football Club as the board begin to compile a list of candidates they wish to talk to.
The Express and Star report that Clark, who retired as a player in 2006, and has been out of a job since departing Blackpool in the summer, would welcome the opportunity to discuss the Saddlers job with the board.
Following a two year spell as a coach with both Newcastle United and Norwich City, Clark has gained managerial experience with Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City and the aforementioned Blackpool, achieving a win ratio of 37.6% from 327 games as a boss.
Walsall have yet to comment on any possible candidates but are understood to be close to beginning the interview process as they look to replace Dean Smith, who joined Sky Bet Championship side Brentford at the beginning of the week.
