The Daily Mail is this evening reporting that Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has been identified as a potential successor to Dean Smith, who has today joined Sky Bet Championship side Brentford.
The Mail suggest; "Smith left the Saddlers on Monday to take up the vacant position at Championship outfit Brentford. The Shrewsbury Town boss has impressed their League One rivals and has been talked about as a possible replacement.
"Mellon has been credited with bringing through youth at New Meadow. He would relish the opportunity to carry on the good work started by Smith this season. Smith only signed a 12-month rolling contract at Walsall last month after they rejected an approach from Rotherham but Brentford, 11th in the Sky Bet Championship, have tempted him to Griffin Park."
