Earlier today, Aidy Boothroyd's England Under-19s side faced Japan Under-19s in an international friendly at Manchester City's Academy Stadium.

Walsall defender Rico Henry, fresh off picking up his first cap during Thursday's draw with the Netherlands, was named among the substitutes, with Boothroyd naming a much-changed side.

England took the lead just ahead of the ten minute mark as Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Joshua Onomah smashed the ball home from six-yards, a powerful run from the Premier League prospect.

The hosts were awarded a penalty as Everton's Callum Connolly was tripped inside the area, Chelsea's Tammy Abraham stepped up but saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Ryosuke Kojima.

The Young Lions doubled their lead after twenty-seven minutes, Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts slotting home following good work from Abraham.

Japan got a goal back soon after, Kazune Kubota heading home from Hasegawa's cross, the match suddenly bursting into life.

England regained their two-goal advantage just a few minutes later, Tammy Abraham with the right-footed finish, the small crowd being given plenty of goal action as the half continued.

The second half started with a double change as Aidy Boothroyd looked to give his squad a good amount of football.

Goalscorer Onomah was replaced by Liverpool's Sheyi Ojo, and West Ham's Reece Oxford was replaced by Everton's Ryan Ledson.

England went on to make more changes just after the hour mark, with Walsall's Rico Henry coming on for Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Isaiah Brown was also brought on to the field as Lewis Cook made way.

As sub Brown saw an effort hit the post, the wait for another goal came to an end shortly after, as Tammy Abraham took advantage of a poor pass-back and slotted home.

Tammy Abraham and Patrick Roberts were soon replaced by Adam Armstrong and Adam Crowley, the young England side looking different from the one that started the match.

There was one more goal late on as substitute Dan Crowley broke down the field following a poor Japan corner, he slotted past the onrushing 'keeper to further extend his sides lead.

Walsall's Rico Henry looked very comfortable on the ball, and was, as always, keen to break down the wing and get into space, his star continues to rise.
