Walsall Football Club's Professional Development Coach John Ward has spoken via the club's official website following Wednesday afternoon's Final Third Development League (West) victory over Wrexham, and has praised his side for their professional, patient performance.
Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, John said; “There wasn’t much between the two sides at the break. It was a tight game and they played very deep. We had a fair amount of the ball and kept hold of possession without worrying their keeper.
“There were only a couple of instances where we managed to get a shot off which was disappointing but the players certainly stepped up their efforts after half time.
“We continued to retain possession but there was more of a threat going forward and at times we looked dangerous in and around the final third.
“The goal came as a result of a good spell. It broke to Jordan six-yards out and he manages to beat the goalkeeper. We pressed them back and forced the chance so I was pleased with that aspect.
"It was one of those games which I told the players, you’ll have a lot of those where it’s untidy and scrappy but we got the goal and came away with the result.
“Our response after half-time was encouraging, the players readjusted and I was pleased with their attitude. We’ll keep working on the quality aspect of our game but we are heading in the right direction that’s for sure."
