Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to club journalists ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Chesterfield, and has discussed his desire to keep the Saddlers flying high at the top of the league, before looking ahead to the clash with the Spireites.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; “It’s a good position to be in and we’re hoping to stay there. Our league position should give the lads a lot of confidence and there’s certainly a mental toughness there, which comes from playing well and putting in good performances.
“To have only conceded six league goals is a credit to all the players and it that can continue then there’s no reason why we can’t stay there.
“But it’ll be a tough game against Chesterfield. Their away record is better than their home record and they’ve got good players, the likes of Jay O’Shea, Sam Morsy and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who are really good footballers. We have to be at our best in every game if we’re to stay where we are in the table."
